FAQ:
- Why is this changing? For the past 26 years, an after-hours advice nurse has been provided for patients of community pediatric practices as a no-cost service. Several months ago, the John Muir Health Network notified community based pediatricians that as of October 1st, 2020 they were changing their after-hours advice nurse provider and would no longer provide this service to independent pediatric practices. To solve this problem, 1-to-1 Pediatrics contracted directly with the company that has been providing after-hours pediatric advice so that this service will remain available to our patients whenever the office is closed. Although the phone number is changing, the service will remain exactly the same without interruption.
- Why is there a fee associated with this service when there wasn’t one previously? The after-hours advice service that has been provided for years to families has been subsidized by the John Muir Health Network. That subsidy was terminated on October 1st, 2020. 1-to-1 Pediatrics had to choose whether to discontinue having after-hours advice available to families or create a way to provide this service to families at a minimal cost. With our membership advice service, families are able to continue the same after-hours care and access to the on-call physician as previously.
- What if I choose to not sign up for the After Hours Advice Service? Most commercial insurances provide 24-hour advice lines for their customers. If a family chooses to no longer utilize our after-hours advice line, they will need to call the number on their insurance card for advice. These insurance company systems are usually very good. However, they do not have a mechanism to communicate directly with our office. Unlike our existing advice nurse service that can fax us copies of the advice given and can contact the on-call doctor for questions, insurance company advice nurse lines do not have the ability to do that.
- How do I sign up? Just click the above link to sign up your family. Because the service will only forward calls to the advice nurse made from numbers that are registered in the system, it is important to provide us with the phone numbers of all parents or caregivers who might call for advice. Also, if your phone number changes, please let us know so we can update your profile. As soon as you sign up, you will be able to access the service.
